FightFlo – Case study
Close
Video analysis for serious fighters

FightFlo

Upload or record a short clip of your training. AI tracks your movement and tells you exactly what to fix, then checks whether your last fault improved.

Overview

Turn every round into fight IQ

FightFlo is phone-first AI coaching for Muay Thai, boxing, kickboxing and MMA. Fighters upload clips, shadowbox live, and track guard, combos and progress in one place.

The first three analyses are free, with no card needed.

FightFlo landing on a phone: Upload your fight footage. Know exactly what to fix.
Home feed: Train smart, not just hard, with the guard alert and record cards
Live Coach: guard and chin tracked live, with Start recording
Shadowboxing round setup with a 2:00 round length and Start round
Plans and pricing: Free, Pro and Top-up
The problem

Train smart, not just hard. Fix what’s actually wrong.

A coach can’t watch every round, and footage sitting on a camera roll doesn’t tell you what to fix. Fighters repeat the same faults, like a dropping guard, without anyone flagging them.

How it works

From a phone clip to a fix

Everything starts on the phone. Fighters either upload a clip or record with Live Coach, which tracks guard and chin position as they train, or they shadowbox a timed round and get their combos broken down afterwards.

Coaching from a clip
  1. 01

Open fightflo.app on your phone and start free

  2. 02

Upload a clip, or record with Live Coach

  3. 03

Live Coach tracks guard and chin, with a red alert when your guard drops

  4. 04

The clip is analysed: frames, pose, then the AI coaching report

  5. 05

Report: skeleton overlay, weakness breakdown and drills

  6. 06

    Better than last time?

Re-upload · compare your last faultTrack progress across sessions

Live shadowboxing
  1. 01

Choose a round length, from 1 to 5 minutes

  2. 02

Start the round and shadowbox in front of the camera

  3. 03

Combos are detected and the round is tracked live

  4. 04

Get a breakdown of your combos after the round

Pose tracking

What the camera sees

Every analysis starts with pose tracking: MediaPipe finds the shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles frame by frame, and the guard line sits between chin and shoulders. These are tests on FightFlo footage, drawn in the app’s overlay style. In the live app the wrists turn red when they drop below the guard line.

Key features

Built around the faults fighters repeat

01

Guard alerts

Get alerted when your guard drops, so the fault is flagged on the clip instead of found in the ring.

02

Re-check your last fault

A follow-up comparison measures the new clip against the last one, so progress is visible rather than assumed.

Key decisions

Phone-first, by design

  1. 01

    Coaching needs a phone clip

On a laptop, FightFlo shows a code to continue on your phone, because that is where the camera and the footage are.

  2. 02

Installable, not an app store download

An installable web app with full-screen coaching, haptics and push notifications, one tap from the home screen.

  3. 03

    One engine, many brands

The analysis pipeline is white-label: the same engine powers a running-form product and client-branded previews, with a developer API.

How I built it

A video pipeline from upload to report

Next.js and TypeScript with Supabase (Postgres). Clips go to Cloudinary, FFmpeg extracts frames on the server, MediaPipe detects pose, and Google Gemini writes the analysis. Stripe handles Pro and top-ups, with web push and email for re-checks.

Earlier experiments in the same repo explored a reactive fight timer (randomised attack, defend and move signals for shadowboxing, with Muay Thai, boxing, MMA and kickboxing styles) and a camera-tracked bag drill with calibration.

Business model

Free to start

Pricing
  1. 01

    Free

3 analyses with the full coaching report. No card needed.

  2. 02

    Pro, £12.99 a month

15 analyses a month, skeleton overlay downloads, clip playback and progress.

  3. 03

    Top-up, £5.99

5 more scans when you hit your monthly cap, for Pro subscribers.

My role

From camera frames to coaching cues

Every layer is mine: the phone-first UX, the video pipeline from upload to pose detection, the prompts that turn movement into coaching, payments, and the developer API.

Outcome

Live, and one engine powering more than one product

FightFlo is live at fightflo.app, where fighters can upload a clip and get three free analyses without a card. Building the upload-to-report pipeline once, and building it well, paid off: the same engine now also powers a running-form product and client-branded previews. Narrowing from a timer and a bag drill to video feedback is what kept the product focused.
